Historic day for Work Health & Safety Laws in WA

Today marks a historic day for Western Australia, as their work health and safety (WHS) laws have finally been modernised

The new harmonised laws bring WA in line with all the other Australian States and Territories (with the exception of Victoria, which has even more stringent rules in place).

These changes recognise modern work relationships and have been tailored to bring together WHS for general industry, mines and petroleum operations under a single act.

The new laws implement stricter WHS duties for organisations and workers, in order to protect the health and safety of their workers – both physically and psychologically. Tougher penalties also apply.

This is a great win for WA, especially in light of the fact that psychosocial health has been given explicit consideration within the new laws.
